The eighth of the second book of Preludes, 'Ondine' was inspired, like the fourth in the set, by an illustration by Arthur Rackham (Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué's Undine). The music vivdly portrays the story of the water fairy, luring mortals to their deaths.
